Chengde
I watched this monk for some time, distracted from his studies by tourist activity in this Tibetan temple in Chengde. Qing Emperor Kangxi established Chengde as an imperial summer resort for its cool climate. He and later his grandson, Qianlong, built elaborate temples and monasteries much to appease the "minority" Buddhist groups who posed a threat to Manchurian rule. In Chengde, there is even a replica of the Potala palace.
