madnomad.com dispatches aperture poste restante etcetera

Note: We travelled in this region in June and July 1999.
Mali - Bamako

Bamako has at least two cybercafes. One isn't worth mentioning except they they had iMacs (it was never open when we went by). The other is excellent: Spider is locaated down the road towards the embassies. Check the bulletin board at the Catholic Mission for directions or ask around. 2000CFA per hour (1000CFA for students or if your using ten or more hours). Tel: 21-23-02 or 21-67-05

Senegal - Dakar

We encountered three. Cafe Metissicana (CFA1500/hr; open 24hrs), Cyber Business Center (CFA1600/hr), and Cafe Ponty (CFA2000/hr). We used the first two. Metissicana is he place to go with decent connection and full-on cafe. However, be forewarned that Senegal is plagued by power outages and downed phone lines.

Senegal - St.Louis

Just two short blocks from Battling Siki is the sole cybercafe in town (at the time we were there), called Point Fin@l. Open only one month as of June 1999, they had to dial-up Dakar to connect. Connection was miserably slow. Also expensive at CFA2500/hr. Eddy, the French proprietor, assures us the situation would improve.

"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream Discover."
