Aklan is one of four provinces on the island of Panay - the western most of the central Visayan islands. The local dialect is Aklanon.

The small church in Marianos, Numancia (just outside of Kalibo) is used only occasionally for worship services. More often, neighbors utilize the Church's cement patio to dry their rice in the heat of the tropical sun.

Most towns and cities throughout the Philippines have a cockpit as cock fighting is a passion for many. In smaller villages, cock fights take place on a cleared patch of dirt surrounded by makeshift stands for the audience.
